Ever been driving past the school and heard the band playing their amazing show music? Well, over the summer the band had a big change and that big change is a new band director. Mr. Hearne just got to the school and he helped the band make quick progress through their show.

Mr. Hearne began learning music in Oregon which was where he also grew up and went to continue learning music in LA. When he was in LA, he was able to learn from other pro musicians like Charlie Moillas, Scott Weber, Andrew Malloy, Jeff Bunnell, and Gary Kuo. All of whom are very talented musicians with some being Emmy winners and others playing in big movies like the Incredibles. Some of his favorite types of songs besides band music are funk. He likes the bands Vulfpeck, Lawrence, and Jacob Collier. Mr. Hearne, besides being a musician, is also a cinephile or someone who likes movies. His favorite movies are Whiplash, Parasite, and Sound of Metal. Mr. Hearne is a video editor too and has done some freelance work that has gained millions of views.

Mr. Hearne’s favorite part about El D so far has been the students. He said he looks forward to going to work because he knows that each day the band students choose to be there too. Something that Mr. Hearne would like for the people of El D is that the band concerts and competitions are available for everyone and to come by whenever to see them perform.

People should be excited about the upcoming band performances. The kids and the music that they are playing are something else. You will be able to catch them performing at some football games and some competitions. Mr. Hearne has wanted to be a band teacher since he was in high school noting that the band experience was a special thing and he wanted to explore how to provide that same experience to students. Now 10 years later he has finally become one and now is a part of the Miner Family as our new band director.
