Available on both iOS and Android, Finch is a self-care app in which you take care of your own little bird, along with yourself. In this app, you adopt a baby finch and go on an adventure with it every day. The adventures take around 6-8 hours depending on the current age of your bird, but time may also be skipped by completing goals that you set for yourself each day. There are many goals the Finch team generates themself that you may use (such as drinking water or taking a shower), but you may also create your own goals for your day-to-day life. Every time you complete a goal, you gain energy and are a few minutes closer to reaching the end of your daily adventure. After each adventure, you then have a chat with your bird and guide them into the kind of bird you are raising them to be.
Personally, I have been using Finch for 106 days, and I’ve found that I tend to take care of myself much better than I have before. The anticipation of speaking with my bird (who I named Omelette) every day had subconsciously encouraged me to do things I used to struggle with doing consistently before: drinking water, putting in my retainers, saying something I’m grateful for, etc. Using Finch made me excited to do these things; as a result, I tend to do them now without having to think too hard about it, and with less struggle. Even after I end Omelette’s adventure and there’s no real reason to finish anymore of my daily goals, I usually do so anyway. Goals that are completed after a day’s adventure earn “Rainbow Stones,” the currency in the game. With these stones, you can buy clothes for your finch, furniture for your finch’s house, new feather colors, and even plane tickets to explore new places in your daily adventures.
Never would I have imagined that a self-care app would genuinely help me take better care of myself, but Finch has not failed to impress me. It has surpassed all expectations I originally had of it, and I highly encourage others to download it as well. Finch has helped me both mentally and physically, all because of a little bird. I’m sure a little bird could help you too.
Omelette is currently in its Summer outfit!
