Between the Lines – A Book Review

The Sun and Her Flowers is the second book to be released by Rupi Kaur. Published in October of 2017 just three years after her first NewYorks Best Seller poem book Milk and Honey, a book I covered previously. The sun and Her Flowers covers topics such as love and loss, trauma and abuse, healing, femininity, and the body.

Once again Rupi Kaur brought me to tears, her heavy-hearted poems about long-distance relationships and finding self-love pulled at my heartstrings. Rupi Kaur’s ability to lay her raw emotions in a single page let alone a whole book is impressive. Although I couldn’t relate to everything, I felt emotionally moved by her words. This was one of those books I just couldn’t put down, I read the entirety of the book in less than two class periods. And I still find myself going back and rereading some of my favorite poems over and over again. I thought my review this week would be easy to write because of how much I love it but I quickly discover that wasn’t the case. It has taken me a couple of days since reading and then re-reading the book to finally gather enough words to do this book justice. Just know, this book is breathtakingly beautiful and would get six stars if I could.
