Hurricane Ian

As many of you have probably heard, Hurricane Ian struck Southwest Florida this week. On Wednesday afternoon, it was labeled as a category 4 hurricane, just shy of being a 5. This meant that catastrophic damage would occur, and without a doubt it did. It was even reported to have brought winds up to 150 mph. As a result of this, nearly 2 million businesses and homes remain without power. Many reporters, along with our own president, have announced that it is one of the strongest and deadliest storms to ever hit the U.S. Although the death toll has remained uncertain, some say that up to 12 people have died so far. Emergency crews and rescue teams have also tried to reach stranded residents who either chose not to evacuate their homes or did not have the time to. Every day, there are several updates regarding this terrible tragedy, and one of the worst ones is the prediction that it will soon hit the coast of South Carolina. This is devastating, especially in light of the harm it has already caused to Florida. With all things considered, President Joe Biden is promising that the federal government will provide assistance to ensure a full recovery no matter how long it may take.
