“We don’t own things; things own us” is A famous quote by Henry Thoreau; that expresses the true nature of today’s society. Whether it’s a home, a car, a television, or a fancy phone; it is something more we must carry on our backs. Stephen King shows this perfectly in the new Netflix film, Mr. Harrigan’s Phone. Based on the novel of the same name by Stephen King from the collection if it bleeds. It tells the story of a young boy, Craig befriends an elderly billionaire John Harrigan.

The plot pacing is slow but it builds up progressively throughout the film. Act one of Mr. Harrigan is where the story is mostly strong due to the amazing chemistry between Craig and Mr. Harrigan. The supernatural events in the film are breathtaking but they won’t go anywhere throughout the 106 minutes film. Something that Stephen King does best is creating a complex variety of characters which this film is lacking during Act two but it does serve the purpose of phones being a bad marriage. Overall, Mr. Harrigan’s Phone is a good movie even though there are flaws, it is still great for its characters and supernatural events.
