Last Saturday, the Golden West High School Choirs hosted the 3rd annual “Back in School Car Show”. This is an event where all registration proceeds go towards funding the choir classes and clubs at Golden West. Last year there were 127 registered show cars. This year there were 187 registered show cars. There were two subcategories; “Adult Drivers” and “Student Drivers”. Both groups of registered show cars would compete for different awards. There were over 30 awards to be given out including the classic “Best of Show” and “Best Originality”. There were also new awards like “Best Tuner/Drifter” and even “People’s Choice”. The car show was fully interactive where people who enjoy cars could hang out and have a good time. There were classics, tuners, imports, JDM vehicles, motorcycles, 4x4s, and even a few supercars. There was a huge selection of local vendors and food trucks out there to support the fun. We interviewed car enthusiast Terry Ashford about what he thought of the turnout. Ashford said, “We’ve been coming out here for the last couple of years and it’s truly amazing how many people come out and support the cause. This is a true safe haven for people that have respect for all different kinds of cars and the culture that comes along with them. It’s awesome how much this show has grown”. Terry has been a well-known car enthusiast in the Central Valley since 1995. His custom cherry red 1964 Ford Fairlane 500 won “Best Classic Ford” on Saturday. The choirs ended up raising around $4,000.00 and this proved to be their best turnout yet.
