Over this summer, during an expedition in Newfoundland, PH Nargeolet a veteran pilot of the Nautile and Ocean Expeditions Mission specialist, Oisin Fanning, announced that they had discovered an extremely productive and dense ecosystem 2900 meters deep near the North Atlantic Ocean part of the Titanic’s wreck. They originally found the area in 1998 when they only saw it as a ¨blip¨ on their sonar. They never knew that they would discover this due to the fact that ¨this could have been any number of things including the potential of it being another shipwreck¨. The wreck of Titanic is located 400 miles from Newfoundland at a depth of 4,000 meters. Steve W. Ross, The Chief scientist at Ocean Expedition says that the finding will help in the understanding of deep-sea environments.
