Yesterday marked the annual Central Valley Cross Country Championship meet. There were over 100 of the top running schools within the Central Valley at this meet. At this meet, races were split into divisional sections where schools would race the top runners within their division. El Diamante’s Varsity Boys team competed in the Division 2 race while El Diamante’s Varsity Girls team competed in the Division 3 race. Every race would consist of a 5000-meter-long course over the rough inclines and declines of the famous Woodward Park in Fresno. Woodward Park is where the Central Valley Championships are held as well as the official CIF State Meet. This is the roughest high school cross-country course in California. In the boys’ race, El Diamante’s Devin Ibarra placed second with a 16:04.20 minute 5k. In the girls’ race, El Diamante’s Brooklyn Bawanan placed fifth with a 19:36.79 minute 5k, Kaimely Bawanan placed ninth with a 20:35.74 minute 5k, and Eira Rodriquez, place eleventh with a 20:49.02 minute 5k. Along with the vast placement of these hard-working athletes, EDHS’s own Devin Ibarra and Brooklyn Bawanan are taking the fury of the green sea to the State Championships next Saturday at Woodward Park once more.
