Frank Darabont’s The Mist (2007) is one of a kind horror film and arguably still one of the best films in modern-day horror. The Mist is famous for its heartbreaking twist at the end; It takes a simple concept like mist and creates a well-crafted two hours masterpiece. There are no simple ways to describe this film but a beautiful tragedy. Like Kubrick’s The Shining, Theorists can break up this film and see it in different inspections. The Mist (2007) has everything from a cast of characters and a unique atmosphere to the plot.
Something significant about this film is the camerawork has this sitcom style that matches perfectly with the overall plot. The cast of characters all plays a role throughout the film. The two strongest links were David Drayton and Mrs. Carmody(also known as Mother Carmody). Thomas Jane did an amazing job playing the role of a tragic leader. He takes responsibility for people’s lives but loses everything in the process; from having everything he ever wanted to having nothing. I personally fanatically Marcia Gay Harden’s role as Mother Carmody; she’s an eccentric, bloodthirsty, and fanatic religious antagonist that stole the spotlight from everyone else.
The Mist’s (2007) plot is a strong factor in the overall film; despite people’s negative views of the film. Its story is personal and gut-wrenching speaking on humanity and the danger of hopelessness. I love when films take risks and do the unexpected. The ending of the Mist is truly heartbreaking; one of my favorite horror due for that reason, There’ll be nothing like it. In conclusion, The Mist is highly recommended to watch if you are interested in getting into horrors.
