SUCKERPUNCH Review

An album that hits emotions, Maggie Lindemann delivered on that, she released an album on September 16, 2022, called SUCKERPUNCH which had around 15 tracks. The first on the track is intro/welcome in with a soft beat which turns into this metal type of beat that continues to rise and then leads off with her official song called to take me nowhere. This song could have many messages for what it could stand for but what I believe is she wants to get away from all the pain she has been feeling for so long and it had only gotten worse; the world around her continues to feel strange and she only ends up feeling alone in the end, she doesn’t want to live to anyone’s expectations because all it did was take her away from herself. The next song on this album will be She knows it, which takes a different approach from the first song; she tells a story about falling in love with a girl who had a boyfriend who never treated her right. Maggie had a close relationship with the girl and Maggie was the only one who truly understood her; she wanted her to leave him because she knew what they had was more special. Number 4 on the list is Casualty of your dreams, I believe what she is talking about in this song is how she had fallen in love with a man who had only believed she could be the one but it was never real; it was a toxic relationship which had only gotten worse. He had been sweet and kind at first but after a while, his words lost their meaning and they fell out of love into lust, however, he was her weakness and whenever he came back to her she would fall right back into the same cycle with him even when there was nothing left to save. Number 5 called Self Sabotage is self-explanatory but Maggie had always believed things will never work out in the end so she tries to ruin the relationship first before she ends up getting hurt firsts, she ruins things for herself because she had never experienced anything good happening to her so it will only continue. Phases are number 6 on our tracklist which I think relates to society now, She discusses how she goes through a relationship with her partner who had only wanted her whenever they wanted and continued to use her just for their own pleasure, she discusses throughout the song what they had done to her like cheating and refusing to let her out the house; then she says a statement of “if you love me if you don’t let me go” which she wants him to let go instead of pretending to love her and she knows he never will love her truly. I’m so lonely with you is halfway through the album at number 7 a painful feeling of her singing being a relationship with someone who was there but never emotionally so she felt like she was lonely and he was never there for her, she knows she can continue even though they aren’t good together because she had fallen for him hoping he can be the same as before but the love between them continues to fade away. Even when they had separated she believed no one could take their place, and the reason why she had stayed in the relationship was that she was scared of what would happen after they had left. Break me! Number 8 in the list begins to take a new approach Maggie had collaborated with Siiick Brain to create a piece with a feeling of rage, this song can have any approach but the song could be about the way someone tries to break another person down. This song is unclear on its message but it does create a feeling of some sort that feels unexplainable but it is also very addictive to listen to. Girl next door is number 9 where Maggie begins to notice the sudden changes in something where she would stay out all night and doesn’t want to be found; she realizes she is no longer the same person she was before. Falling back into a hurt path Maggie placed another song called We Never even dated number 10 on the tracklist, she tells how much she misses this person and continues to hold onto this feeling even when the person she misses had moved on with someone else. She can see the difference between how they looked at her and the way they looked at their person, even though they never dated she believes there’s still a chance for them to be together and she continues to wait for them no matter how long it takes. An unbearable feeling has started to turn once again, her feelings are beginning to become too much for her and in this, her song called novocaine number 11 which she begins to rely on to take away the pain she has been feeling. She is no longer feeling happy and is no longer hopeful in anything, she fell into this darkness which she had fallen at a very young age; she tries to fight it and try her best to win but she is getting tired of it and beginning to lose. With a sudden vibe change, she had gone through an emotional change, you’re not special discusses how the person who continues to try and ruin her reputation by doing anything they can to get under her skin doesn’t budge, she instead finds it entertaining how someone can continue to obsess with her when they mean they mean nothing to her. Hear me out was a difficult one to understand because it can be viewed in many ways, where nobody hears her out where she would try to defend herself from something but everyone only looks at her with a blank expression not believing what she says. They have taken her voice and she begins to believe no matter how much she tries to speak out no one will listen and she’ll have to put up with it in the end alone. This album had a lot of twists and turns of emotions and once again collaborated with a member of Sleeping with sirens Kellin Quinn joined maggie in the song How could you do this to me? To discuss how they will be the worst mistake to the person who is with them and make their life a living hell and will drag them down in the end. To wrap this album she ends it with a song named cages, where she sings how people continue to make comments about her music and how she continues to get hate but she just wants to live her life and will never change the way she is because that’s who she wants to accept and won’t be different because people don’t like how she is.
