Stress is something that every single one of us on this earth will experience in our lifetimes. There’s no getting around it. It’s inevitable. Although stress can be helpful at times, especially when it comes to life or death situations, chronic stress can cause a variety of physical and mental problems such as severe headaches, weight loss or gain, irritability, anxiety, a loss of interest in activities—just to name a few of the many negative side effects.
Since stress is inevitable, it’s ideal that everyone knows a few ways that can help them handle it. Down below is a list of different ways one can cope with stress:
- Start exercising
It doesn’t have to be intense, just something to get your blood flowing. It could just be a simple thirty-minute walk.
- Eat healthier and limit stimulants
Ever heard the saying “You are what you eat?” If you’re not nourishing your body with the nutrients it needs, chances are that you aren’t going to feel the best. Make sure you eat a variety of fruits, vegetables, etc to keep your body running at its best ability.
- Try out meditation
Relaxation techniques like meditation can help your body get out of fight-or-flight mode. A simple ten minutes of meditation can do wonders.
- Make sure you are getting a reasonable amount of sleep
It’s best to aim for about seven to eight hours of sleep every night. If you get less, it’s very likely that you’re going to struggle to function throughout the day. Sleep deprivation is proven to be harmful in the long run.
