Between the Lines – A Book Review

“Maybe it’s better to have gotten it right and been happy for one day instead of living a lifetime of wrongs.”

They Both Die at the End is a young adult, LGBTQ, Romance book written by Adam Silvera. First published in 2017 the story consists of two teens, Mateo Torrez and Rufus Emeterio. Both live in a society where every night at midnight a Death casts calls giving some bad news…they were going to die in the next twenty-four hours. Both are strangers yet somehow both are looking to meet a friendly face on their last day, trying to fit a lifetime into one single day.

With 3.8 stars on Good Reads I think this book is amazing and one of my new favorites.  For the past couple of years, I have seen this book advertised and it came highly recommended to me. It was not until I finally received a copy that I decided to pick it up and read it. Silvera writes a heart-wrenching story not about the tragedies of death but about the celebration of life. The chemistry between Mateo and Rufus expands and blossoms into a loving bond with one another and doesn’t feel rushed given the short time frame.

This book wrecked me, but not how I thought it would.  I can’t really go into detail but if you’re looking for a good cry or a heart-wrenching story this is where to start. I give it a solid 4.5 stars!
