How People Perceive Different Hair Colors on Women

As we all know, how you present yourself is directly correlated with how the public views you and treats you. Hair is a big part of your identity, and I have personally had almost every hair color that you can.

When I was blonde, I noticed that men would speak to me more, but not for good reasons. They would almost always assume I wasn’t intellectual. Women on the other hand would basically flat-out ignore me in public. I’m not quite sure why this is, but they definitely were not as friendly toward me.

When I was brunette, my natural hair color, people overall seemed to view me as more of a person. I would have deeper conversations with men, and the women were kinder. It wasn’t a huge difference but it’s definitely something to take note of.

I was ginger for a while and this was similar to brunette, but people seemed to talk to me more just to mention my hair color. I’m assuming that since it was the most “unnatural natural” color you could have, they didn’t see it as often and thought it was interesting.

When I had unnatural colors in my hair, like red or purple, I would get stopped by women a lot to compliment it. On the other hand, the men would ignore me unless they had to speak to me.

Of course, all of these observations are interesting and say a lot about public opinion, but keep in mind that in all of these scenarios, I was the same person. The only difference was the color of my hair. This is a reminder to never judge someone based on what they look like and to take the time and effort to get to know them before you start making assumptions about who they are.
