On January 27th, 2023, American rapper Lil Yachty released his fifth studio album titled “Let’s Start Here” and this project exceeded my expectations by a massive amount. Lil Yachty is mainly known for his rap projects and his SoundCloud music, but the direction he went with this album is completely different than expected. Instead of being a rap album, this is a psychedelic rock project which left fans of Lil Yachty very confused and wondering what direction this project was going to go. This is one of the weirdest but most interesting projects I have ever heard and listening to this felt like a fever dream. When Lil Yachty held his listening to this project in a stadium located in LA he directly said that he wanted to be more than just some “SoundCloud rapper” and that this project was a step forward in who he actually was and what he wants to do with music.

This album being a psychedelic rock album compared to his other rap projects that he has released is a very weird approach and left fans really intrigued to see how it was going to sound. This album is being treated so well that it is being compared to huge artists like Pink Floyd and Tame Impala which for a music artist like Lil Yachty is a huge step forward in his career. This project is very different but in a good way, the guitars sound amazing and they flow really well with the drumming. If you were to ask me what artist made the instrumentals without hearing the vocals, never in a million years would anybody guess that it was Lil Yachty’s instrumentals?

This project is near perfect but the only flaw is that Lil Yachty’s vocals don’t fit too well with this psychedelic rock-type music but you have to appreciate the direction that he wants to go in as well. Overall this project was definitely a good listening experience and I would give it a solid 9/10 and I personally hope Lil Yachty continues this type of music.
