Anxiety is something that I struggle with every day, and have especially struggled with it as a senior who is planning on moving away to college next year. Alas, I know it is not something that I face alone. Here are some things I have begun to do to help ease the waves of anxiety I have been facing, along with coping with the general anxiety I experience daily.
- Identify your triggers
It’s extremely important to know what causes your feelings of anxiety in order to find out how best to manage it. Some triggers will be easy to identify while others won’t, but being able to recognize what prompts feelings of anxiety will help you be able to avoid those things. If some triggers are unavoidable (such as going to school), then at least it can help point you in the right direction of alternative coping strategies you can use to lessen the anxiety you may experience.
- Do a daily routine that brings you calm
Having consistency in your everyday routine helps introduce a sense of ease into your life. It can be as simple as saying affirmations to yourself in the mirror every morning to having an hour-long yoga session- ritual is what makes it important! Personally, I have a nightly skincare routine that I do, and I feel that since I’ve started doing this routine, my general amount of anxiety throughout the day is lower than what it was before.
- Keep a journal
Similarly to having a daily routine, keeping a journal is something that you can consistently do to keep down your everyday anxiety levels. But more than that, keeping a journal allows you to have a safe space where you can think about your feelings and get things off your chest. I’ve found that keeping a journal also helps me identify my triggers and brainstorm ways that I can deal with my big feelings for the future.
I hope that these tips will help you along your journey of managing your anxiety, just as they have for me. Also, here’s your daily reminder to drink water!
