On October 12th, 2021, American musician Travis Miller, also known under his stage name “Lil Ugly Mane,” released his third studio album titled “Volcanic Bird Enemy and the Voiced Concern” which is a mouthful to try and say. Lil Ugly Mane has many genres that he does and he is one of the most versatile producers/musicians out right now going under a lot of different genres. Volcanic Bird Enemy is an Alternative rock, Shoegaze record with a lot of different genres mixed into it with a lot of different psychedelic beats. Alongside this record, Lil Ugly Mane has created other genres of music like rap. Lil Ugly Mane has made a lot of very unique projects like “Third Side Of Tape” which is 50 songs long and over an hour long. Lil Ugly Mane has created over 100+ different aliases that he has released music under that the internet knows of.

This record sounds like a fever dream and the psychedelic nature to it makes it even weirder to listen to with Ugly Mane’s soft but strong vocals and lyricism. The songs on this record go from soft slow songs to alt. rock type songs which I found really interesting with the approach LUM tried to go with this project. Along with this record and the whole weird style to it, the album cover consists of Lil Ugly Mane with a puppet and a giant bird which is even weirder. I think Lil Ugly Mane has such a precise voice that fits him to make these instrumentals on this record work, the way he changes his style over the 2010s is really interesting.

Overall, I think this record is really interesting but definitely is an easier listen than it seems. Some standout tracks that I like from this record are “with Iron & Bleach & Accidents, Benadryl Submarine, Stryofoam, Stock car, VPN, and Porclean Slightly” and I would give Volcanic Bird Enemy a solid 9/10 and it definitely is a very good record overall.
