Most people know the Mona Lisa. Leonardo da Vinci’s Mona Lisa is estimated to have been completed between 1503 and 1506. This painting is famous for having no eyebrows and smiling. If you go to the Louvre, it is difficult to see because access is restricted by a wooden fence and the size of the painting is 77 x 53 cm (30 x 20 7/8 in). In my opinion, the Mona Lisa didn’t look very special compared to da Vinci’s other works. How did it become so famous?
In 1911, the Mona Lisa was stolen by the Italian nationals of Vincenzo Peruggia. Two years later, Mona Lisa was able to return to the museum as Vincenzo Peruggia, who was trying to sell Mona Lisa, was caught by the police. Vincencho Peruza told the police that Mona Lisa was originally from Italy so he tried to bring it to Italy. For two years, as the Louvre’s artwork disappeared, the story of the Mona Lisa and the Louvre has become famous in many media.
