Leslie Edward Claypool, or for short just “Les Claypool” is an American musician, filmmaker, author, singer, and obviously an amazing bassist. Born in 1963, Les Claypool is one of the best bass guitar players of all time and my personal favorite bass player alongside Cameron Picton of Black Midi. Les Claypool is very known for a lot of projects he does but if there were two things he gets recognized for the most it would have to be that he is the lead singer and bassist for the band “Primus” but also known for being the singer and bassist for the theme song of one of the most popular animated series of all time “South Park”. Most people do not know that Les Claypool is behind the theme song for South Park and it is really interesting to just go down the history behind Les Claypool and check out all the little projects he has done.

Les Claypool is most well known for his bass guitar skills as well, Les Claypool uses his iconic “slap” technique which sounds really abstract and so unique, at that point, Claypool does not even make the bass guitar sound like a bass anymore because he is so fluid with the instrument. Recently I have been getting into learning Bass Guitar and Les Claypool has been a very big inspiration for me and I’m sure for a lot of other people as well.

What makes Les Claypool so unique is how weird his style is as well and especially if you listen to some of Primus’s music his bass is really funky and he as a person just has that funky and cool vibe to him, he isn’t your average heavy metal long hair bassist but looks like he is stuck in a 1900s movie bartender. Les Claypool is an amazing bassist and an amazing person as well, truly a perfect musician and one of the best bassists in the world.
