Books For Every TS Era: Part 1

By CALLIE WATSON

Staff Writer

While at Barnes & Noble over Spring break, I stumbled across a display that had a book inspired by every Taylor Swift era! As both an avid reader and a devoted Swiftie, I have decided to curate my own list. There are slight spoilers in my explanation, so don’t say I didn’t warn you.

Debut: The Upside of Falling

  • Dual POVs and the ever-classic fake dating trope make it hard not to love The Upside of Falling. Becca’s growing feelings towards Brett during their fake relationship give Teardrops on My Guitar level pinning. When Brett thinks of Becca, he’ll think of books rather than “Tim McGraw.” Their relationship is a culmination of  “Our Song” and “I’m Only Me When I’m With You.”

Fearless: The Cheat Sheet

  • The Cheat Sheet brings “You Belong With Me” to life, dead serious. “Superstar” and “Hey Stephen” is perfect for when Bree fake dates an NFL star, and “Today Was A Fairytale” was definitely based on all of their dates. “Fifteen,”“Untouchable,” “Fearless,” and “You Belong With Me” beautifully accompany Bree and Nathan’s friends-to-lovers trope. They have that “Love Story” type of love.

Speak Now: Better Than The Movies

  • Don’t even try to change my mind: Better Than The Movies is literally Speak Now in book form!! Since childhood, Wes has been “Enchanted” by Liz. They go from enemies to “Sparks Fly.” Liz has the trademark Speak Now hopeless romantic outlook on life. “The Story of Us” sums up the ups and downs of Wes and Liz. This one’s for the “Enchanted” girls.

Red: Little Women

  • Red depicts all forms of love, and heartbreak, and is truly for the girls. The March girls all embody different types of love. Meg has the sweetest love story that has the heart of “Everything Has Changed.” Jo lives out the female hardships in “Nothing New” and goes through the “I Almost Do” experience with Laurie. Beth is quiet and sweet just like “Begin Again,” and sadly relates to “Ronan.” Amy suffers through being “The Lucky One” and lives out the trademark “Red” love story.

1989: The Summer I Turned Pretty Trilogy

  • Belly and Conrad own “This Love,” “How You Get The Girl,” and “You Are In Love.” Jeremiah definitely will be remembered in “Wildest Dreams,” and had the whirlwind romance of “Wonderland.” TSITP has the turbulence of 1989: heartbreak, romance, and new beginnings. The whole trilogy perfectly embodies “New Romantics.”

Reputation: The Inheritance Games Trilogy

  • The Inheritance Games trilogy has the same intense, dark drama as Reputation. Avery is an “I Did Something Bad,” “Look What You Made Me Do” type of girl. She loves hard, like “Don’t Blame Me.” Her relationship (if you want to call it that) with Jameson has the adrenaline rush of “Getaway Car,” but the thrill often leads to dead ends. “Gorgeous” was written for Grayson and Avery; it’s practically based on all their interactions in the first book.
