An early heat wave in May is expected to surpass daily records in parts of the Pacific Northwest and worsen wildfires already burning in Canada. The unseasonal high temperatures could fuel the dozens of wildfires that are burning in Canada’s western Alberta province. The National Weather Service issued a heat advisory Friday which lasts until Monday. The temperature could rise to a point that it could cause heat-related illnesses.
Residents and officials of the Pacific Northwest are becoming more vigilant about the heatwave after some 800m people died due to the heat dome weather event in late June and early July. Officials in Multnomah County are monitoring temperatures but aren’t planning on opening Super Cooling Centers. Outreach teams are starting to visit homeless encampments to let them know about the resources available to them.
