Freshman Class Holds Elections for 2023-2024

By Chance Ybarra

This week has been quite an exciting one for the freshmen at El Diamante. They had their second week of classes, experienced their first high school football game, and for a select few; their first class election As an ASB Officer myself, I’m excited to welcome them into ASB and to teach them all about being a leader.

To kick it off, the freshmen officers ran a forum where they answered questions about their platforms and how they’d do in their positions.

When asked about campaigning, Candidate Emma Miller stated, “I mainly just told my friends, and then told them to tell their friends, and I even posted about it.”

Freshmen candidates are allowed to set up a few posters around campus as well as promote themselves on social media to get themselves out there before their elections.

Once elected, the Freshmen become full-fledged members of the Associated Student Body (ASB). They’re taught a variety of different skills involving speaking, poster making and most importantly organization.

Emma replied, “I’m really looking forward to just being involved and being a part of the school, and knowing what goes on behind the scenes.”

Emma also mentioned that “[She] would like to have run the class club on campus.” Emma ran for the position of Freshman Class President, unfortunately she lost to another candidate, but as runner up was elected as Class Vice President.

Congratulations to the winners of the elections: Freshman Class President, Will Snyder came out on top. Runner up for Class President was Emma Miller, now Freshman Class Vice President. Freshman Class Secretary/Treasurer Moises Bravo won his election.
