Dreams Realized: An El D Student’s Testimony of Becoming a Dancer

By: Kimberly Martinez

A local El Diamante student grew up in dance, but those dreams were lost due to being unable to attend a studio. But dreams were found again once she attended El Diamante. And I was the student.

I started out by taking classes hip hop classes locally. I had the time of my life, and my love for dance sprouted. I had to take a break from dance, but that didn’t stop my love for dance. I was mesmerized when I saw El Diamante’s dance show, and couldn’t wait to take classes here. I had the immense desire to be a part of the show.

My freshmen year I started taking dance and I knew right away, I found my home. I felt comfortable and loved Mrs. Bettencourt, and adored her love for Bruno Mars. AlthoughI had taken a break from dance, it was a year of me learning and growing in my dance skills.

Now I am a junior, and I am enrolled in the advanced dance class. At times I struggle with the different skills needed for the dance, show but I push on and persevere. Not only me, but all of the students are thrilled about the dance show.

The dance show experience is one that I love, and one that is not like no other. By the time the show takes place, the dressing rooms become one big family. I have a love for seeing all of the dancers come together, and seeing our hard work pay off. It still mesmerizes me till this day.

Being able to pick up that dance now in high school is a dream. I’m happy to experience dance again in my life, especially here, at El Diamante High School.
