Friday, September 29th El Diamante hosted a carnival and parade to the celebrate the end of Homecoming week.
It is a first for El Diamante to have the homecoming court parade around campus in cars. All of the homecoming candidates rode in unique, fancy autos that drove around The Dip while EDHS students stood by the sidelines watching and cheering.
Chance Ybarra, one of the candidates for Homecoming King said, “It was a fun experience because we have not done this before.”
Leading up to the parade, El D senior Allison Alvarez, shared that she was “Excited to see what type of cars people would be driving.”
Another senior Madeline Alvarez stated she was most anticipating, “What groups and people would be participating in the parade” and was excited to see how the parade would turn out.
During lunch, various activities, including a Bingo game for Senior Citizen Day and “Two Truths and a Lie” for White Lies Day were held during Homecoming week. The Homecoming court participated in these and other games in The Dip with their competitors all week. Each day there was a specific dress up day for the entire student body to participate in.
During lunch on Friday the El D campus hosted Amigos, Tacos Galacticos, Kona Ice, Tony’s Pizza, and Agua Frescas among other food vendors. These vendors were available on our campus and students were able to purchase food and hang out with their friends.
Senior Landan Rains shared that although he loved the variety of foods that were available, he wishes the cost of the food was more reasonable, “It’s tough for the average high school student to pay these prices, especially if they’re broke like me.”
Other students, especially freshmen, were excited to have alternatives to the regular daily menu offered during lunch.
