Senior, Aislinn Weisner, a member of FFA says, “This was my first year showing hogs and it was so much fun and I learned a lot from it.”
El Diamante’s FFA (Future Farmers of America) livestock team took part in the Tulare County Fair this past September receiving significant achievements. There were many students who showed swine, dairy, beef, lamb, and rabbits over the course of a week. Students had to raise and care for these animals for a long time in order to show them. There are 46 members at El Diamante that show an animal on the FFA team.
FFA advisor and 22-year veteran teacher Mrs. Veldhuizen exclaims, “Our students worked hard all through the summer, and their efforts paid off at the fair.”
The following students left the fair with some big wins:
Briannah Perry received first place in her class and took home the title of Champion Yorkshire breed (rabbit).
Megan Jones received first in her class and was Reserve Champion of the AOB breed (Heifers/Steers)
Summer Jones placed Supreme Champion in showmanship with her rabbit.
Kaylee Baca won Champion Novice Showmanship and placed 3rd in experienced showmanship.
Pedro Gutierrez recieved reserved AOC steer.
Another senior, Briannah Perry, declares bittersweetly, “This was my last and final year showing a hog with El Diamante and I am going to miss it a lot”
