On Friday October 27th, El Diamante held their annual Battle for the Saddle rally. While many groups performed such as dance, cheer, and even the teachers, the rally mainly focused around the suspense of the football game that will take place later today.

After the Fight Song performance by cheer, Mr. Fox came to the microphone to make some special announcements about P.I.C.K winners. The four student winners were Joseph Bediwi, Elias Sandoval, Cyler Hunter, and Joel Wood. The four teacher winners were Mrs. Mcbride, Mr. Fjelstrom, Mr. Romero, and Mrs. Veldhuizen. Not only were there P.I.C.K. award announcements, but some special homeroom awards for the homeroom olympics were given out. The winners consisted of Mr. Young’s class for the freshmen,  Mr. Gables’ class for the sophomores, Mrs. Olson’s class for juniors, and Mr. Hawkins’ class for the seniors. Not only was there lots of excitement for these awards, but Miner Ed’s sister (Millie the Miner) was finally introduced to the El Diamante campus.

In preparation for this big event, ASB puts in a lot of time and effort to make the rally the best it can be. Senior ASB member, Reese Bryant, stated how “It can be really hectic sometimes as it is a really quick turnover from the last rally.” Throughout the two class periods of ASB, the work is attempted to be divided evenly, such as one class making the class signs and another class making the dress up day signs. However, Reese claimed that “when it comes down the wire, everyone rushes together to do what is left”. Thanks to ASB, we had another successful Battle for the Rally. Let’s hope the energy ignites our team to victory tonight!

After these announcements, the special Battle for the Saddle line dance performed by our very own El Diamante teachers. Each of these groups had amazing energy with great country music and kept the crowd entertained. To cut up the different performances, the rally consisted of many different parts, such as entertaining videos/acts by ASB about the rivalry between Golden West and El Diamante for the saddle. Along with that, each of the Varsity football team members got their very own special introduction video and walk out. Throughout the whole entire rally, there was great energy from the students, staff, and individuals involved in the rally.
