El Diamante’s Girls’ Tennis season comes to an end placing second in league with their last match against Golden West and four out of six players continuing onto Area.

Senior player, Morgan Phillipe noted, “This will be our second year in a row placing second in league and we’ve done a great job keeping up the good streak. Although this might be biased to say because it’s my last year playing tennis, I think this was the most fun and exciting season so far.”

In EYL individuals, the team took the top six players on varsity. Although it was a tough battle, four out of the six placed really high in the tournament: Miah Leal placed third in the singles division, Breana Garcia placed fifth in the singles division, with Suzanna Guzman and Grace Yates placing second place in the doubles division.

When asked what she would most miss, Senior Elisabeth Beck, ranked number six on varsity, stated “I’ll miss seeing all my teammates at practice and my favorite doubles partner [Morgan Phillipe].”

Senior Lana Gibson, ranked number seven, adds that she will miss, “Being with all of you guys because some of us have been playing together for a while and it’s going to be so sad leaving everyone”. Gibson is known for her ability to strategically slam amazing volleys against her opponents that blow right by them.

Senior Breanna Garcia, ranked number three who played varsity all four seasons of high school, says her favorite memory from this season was, “Having a lot of back-and-forth rallies while playing at the Clovis match. Also, our team this year was really big, and some exchange students were in it. I had a great time with them.”

Garcia was able to beat her opponents by switching up the pace of the game and adding slices to her game. Senior Suzanna Guzman, ranked number four, claims that her favorite memory was when “Breanna and I gave out speeches before the matches”. Guzman did really great this season and was one of the players that continued on to Area.

The top four players continuing onto area are playing at Mt. Whitney this Friday and Saturday to continue onto and hopefully make it to Valley. Wish our girls luck and go Miners!
