Spotify Wrapped is here! If you don’t already know, every year Spotify gives its users a personalized rundown of their music taste and use of the app throughout the year. This includes top listened to artists, songs, and genres, thank you videos from the listener’s top artist, as well as new elements that change up every year. We asked students from every grade about their Spotify Wrapped to not only get a look at the music taste of the school, but to also get their opinion on the accuracy and the overall quality of the rundown!
Freshman Lily Gonzalez had a mixed take on her wrapped because although she states it was quite accurate, she “listen[s] to music while [she] sleep[s] so it’s more sad and calm songs [she doesn’t] listen to in the day.”
According to her Wrapped she listened to about 69 different genres with her top three being pop, rap and R&B. Her top five songs were quite varied being Matilda by Harry Styles, Runaway by Kanye West, The Archer by Taylor Swift, Brooklyn Baby by Lana Del Rey, and Little Bit by Drake. Lily listened to around 76,272 minutes with her peak day being March 18th. Her top five artists ended up being Taylor Swift, Billie Eilish, Cigarettes After Sex, Lana Del Rey, and Harry Styles.
Lily also added her opinion on the personalized messages the users get from their top listened to artists, “My general opinion is that I can tell that they are genuinely grateful for all their fans support and that’s great to see now a days because of how much singers and different artists don’t appreciate all they have so it’s great to see.”
Sophomore Hailey Fridlund gives us her stats with broadway, pop, indie, show tunes, and otacore being her top five genres of the year. “I got Savannah…I thought that was honestly really crazy.” Hailey’s top five songs were Memories by Conan Gray, You Belong With Me, The Exit, Look What You Made Me Do, and Mr. Perfectly Fine.
“My minutes were 55,813 with a peak on April 4th at 804 mins… and my top five artists were not surprising at all, Taylor Swift, Conan Gray, Lovejoy, Mitski, and Ice Nine Kills.” Her general opinion on the wrapped for this year was slightly varied, stating that it was quite accurate however, “[she] feels it should be swapped with somebody else, probably the weeknd or something, [she doesn’t] listen to much.”
Junior, Esmeralda Mejia gave us her Spotify wrapped full of music from a whole different country. Her top songs were, “Bibi Vengeance, OMG, Eve Psyche & The Bluebird’s Wife, Hold on Tight, ANTIFRAGILE and [her] top artists were, Stray kids, ENHYPEN, TOMORROW x TOMORROW, Newjeans, Le SSERAFIM.” Esmeralda had listened to 46,085 hours of music and when asked what was her peak day and why she states that, “[her] peak was on July 1st because [she] had listened to music on a really long road trip that day!” This year, Spotify added an “areas that listen similarly to you” giving their users a look into what area near them is quite similar. “It said that my taste was similar to Davis, California. I was honestly really confused because I had never heard of Davis before but I think that’s a really cool addition. My overall opinion on my wrap was that it was pretty accurate. It made a lot of sense since I listen to all of those genres and songs pretty much every single day.”
And finally, Lisandro Alvarado, a senior student at El Diamante had a lot of comments on his wrapped in terms of changes he wants for next year’s. Lisandro listened to 40 genres with his top five being pop, rap, trap queen, pov indie, and art pop. His top artists were Lana Del Rey, Omar Apollo, Kali Uchis, Doja Cat and Fleetwood Mac.
“My top songs were Summer Bummer by Lana Del Rey, I will Always Love You by Dolly Parton which was weird because I only listened to that song like 10 times, A&W also by Lana Del Rey, and then Tamagotchi and Bad Life.”
The city that he listens to similarly ended up being Santa Cruz. “I thought that part was really interesting and accurate because we went on a trip to Santa Cruz and the local radio station was playing music I actually really liked.”
Lisandro listened to 58,692 minutes of music with Halloween being his peak day of listening. “I don’t really listen to podcasts that often but I do like Emergency Intercom when I do decide to listen to one.” Overall, Alvarado decides that “it was not accurate at all, I did not listen to my top songs as much as it said I did. I wish they’d include the last month of the year too because my taste obviously changed since the beginning of the year.”
Did anyone get more minutes than me? I got 97,736 minutes!! 😉
I actually found a student with 165k!!!
