Guitar Club Offers Laid Back Atmosphere & Advisor Who Can ‘Shred’

By Landon Rains

Did you know that Mr. Morrison can shred?! Morrison has a guitar club that openly invites people into the community. The guitar club meets every Wednesday and Friday during lunch in Room 619. What do they do in there exactly? The Club consists of people who want to learn guitar or take an interest in music having to do with the guitar, but anyone is welcome. Morrison keeps a couple of acoustic guitars tucked away you can play in case you don’t have your own. The club is a very informal meeting environment so if you are worried about not fitting in, afraid you’ll mess up, etc. It’s okay! The people are kind and Mr. Morrison is always willing to help.

Mr. Morrison, Advisor for Guitar Club

The history behind Morrison and his love for guitar goes back to middle school and the beginning of high school. He remarks, “I don’t remember where I saw it, maybe on TV or something, but I just thought it looked cool.”

Eventually, he ended up getting his first guitar back in 1998. He eventually played in his school’s jazz band and began to develop the skills of reading music and getting lessons, and he even used video cassettes to learn from. His biggest inspiration, he feels, would have to be Queen’s Greatest Hits.

“I just liked the way the guitars sounded and the way it all flowed and meshed together.” He also states that Eddie Van Halen was a huge inspiration as well!

His advice for those who are just starting or want to get into the guitar but have no idea where to start, are struggling or whatever the case may be is It “to not get discouraged.” T

The Guitar is a hard and complex instrument. There may be few people who pick up the guitar and are naturally good at it, and although that may not be the case for you, there is always room to learn, grow, and progress
