Miners More than ‘Kenough’ at Barbie-Themed Winter Rally

By Molly Ridenour

As Miners return to school after Winter Break, El D held its first rally of the semester. Barbie takes the stage with an enthusiastic bright pink rally including games and entertainment. Sophia Benevento and Ethan Griffith hosted the ultra pink show. Staying in character for the whole event, they perfectly played our Barbie and Ken.

Ethan Griffith stated “It was pretty good…its a party,” he continued on by saving “everyone moaned and groaned at the Alma Mater but have some school spirit, show up and show out!”

Our Winter sports rally is to showcase all the achievements made by our winter sports in the last semester and currently.

Rallies are a staple and help to promote school spirit and inclusion, especially having a rally right after a long break to get our students excited for the Spring semester. Having school spirit brings our community closer.

Teachers were heavily involved in this rally by participating. They acted as the famous Barbie and Ken. A school favorite, Mr. Young, was our Surfer Ken.

He stated that participating was “super fun, I always like to, ya know, get in front of the students. It’s exciting!”

The 2024 Winter Rally recognized Boys and Girls Wrestling, Boys and Girls Soccer, as well as Cheer and Dance.

During this rally there was an activity and call-outs for our students to participate in. In addition, a school-wide favorite, class competitions were a highlight as everyone is included. As predicted the senior class won. The hosts also started the party chant, and the seniors won again, surprise.

ASB selected one student from each sport to participate. ASB had Barbie bags with T-Shirts that each student had to unravel as quickly as they could and put the T-Shirt on the fastest. Whoever did it the quickest, got a prize. Mia Olson, from our Girl’s Basketball Team won. Congratulations to Mia and all the participants.

The 2024 Winter Rally seemed to be a success. After the rally had concluded, students sang our Alma Mater together, a unifying moment. There were a lot of smiles on students as they exited the gym, inspiring the rest of the student body to participate next time.
