Our El Diamante Soccer Team has always had a very successful soccer program achieving many wins each season and having successful playoff games placed against very high teams. But, now Augustine Gonzalez has achieved the great accomplishment of 200 wins for the program. These wins haven’t just been easy either, The soccer program has played against multiple challenges such as Redwood and multiple D1 Programs in tournaments and playoff games.
Augustine Gonzales stated, “I started in 2002 when the school first opened, my dad was the head coach and I was his assistant.” This shows the coach’s hard work and dedication sticking with the program for a solid 22 years leading the team to success. Most coaches at El D haven’t coached nearly half that amount of time so it shows the dedication that he has put in. Along with the number of years, 200 wins is an achievement that the majority of coaches do not have.
Coach Gonzales claims, “We teach hard work and discipline.” He claims that he coaches this as the key to success to his players which shows us how he has had such a successful coaching career.
Out of his whole coaching career his favorite and most memorable moments are when, “Old players come back to coach and help out.” As old players come back and help the program it builds the program up even stronger because of all of the experience that is out on the field which shows us why El Diamante Soccer has been so successful over the years.
Although he has 200 wins, there are many more to come so go out and support El Diamante Soccer!
