Miner Track Season Begins with a Running Start

As winter sports come to an end, spring sports are blooming. The track and field’s 2023-24 season officially began when practices started on January 22nd, however some of these athletes have been putting in work for months during the pre-season. These athletes are excited to see where this new season takes them. 

With the first track meet of the season around the corner, these Miners are excited and ready to compete. On Feburary 23rd, varsity Track at Buchanan for the Distance Classic.

The following day on the 24th, at Bobby Bass there is the Sprint Classic. Junior returner, Kaylee Mangoagui says, “I’m most excited about competing this season and making more memories with new and returning teammates. I’m ready to see myself and everyone else’s progress throughout the season.”

Last season, the seniors had a significant impact on the team. Although the seniors have left and will be missed, Mangoagui believes it will be a good season of growth and development for everyone to adjust to the new season without the seniors.

Now that a new season has begun and a new track team is developed Mangoagui says, “I think this season the team will experience a lot of growth, both as a unit and individually. I’ve noticed a lot of dedication in my teammates and I want to see all of them succeed.” 

Track is both an individual and team sport. Each athlete has to work on their mechanics  in order to perform well for the team and for themselves. Sophomore, Allison Rocha-Calderon says, “I’m excited for getting better, honing my skills, and to compete to prove the hard work that I’ve been giving because I’m really competitive.”

The Miners have their first official track meet on February 15th and are ready to showcase their skills and hard work they’ve been putting in the pre-season.
