‘Setting’ Up for the Season: El Diamante Volleyball is Starting Up

By: Ashlynn Martinez

The El Diamante Varsity Volleyball team’s pre-season has officially come to an end as the ladies finish with a big win against Tulare Western. They had a great pre-season with a record of 15 wins and 3 losses. On Tuesday, September 24th, the team headed to Monache High School to start the beginning of league. This is where it gets serious for the team and the hard work comes into play.

The team has several main goals for the season. Sophomore Captain Aubriana Huitt states, “Our main goal for the season is to win league and continue to playoffs.”

While working to achieve that goal, the team also has a few challenges that they are ready to overcome throughout the season. Junior Captain Madison Mackenzie explains, “Sometimes in a game, we sort of stop playing and our energy becomes low, so we are looking to overcome that and not give up”.

Although hard work is a big part of their success, the team’s bond and chemistry with each other is really helpful for them. Due to the friendships made before the team got together, the team has become close. During tough games, Captain Madison Mackenzie says, “we have such a close connection, encouraging each other when we are down is easy and allows us to continue to fight to get points”.  As well as encouraging each other, Senior Captain Emma Taylor says, “dancing during timeouts or between games helps us keep the energy up against tougher teams.”

This year’s volleyball team is prepared to work hard and push through the challenges of the upcoming season. Some of the toughest competition are Redwood High School and Porterville High School, which they will face at home during the week of 9/30-10/2. However, they are ready to compete and hopefully come out with some wins and a winning season.
