2025 Goals and Resolutions

By: Miah Leal

As the end of January is near, it is a time to reflect on our 2025 goals and reolutions. We are given a blank slate and we should take advantage of this chance to set expectations for what we hope to achieve in the future. It may be challenging to stick to a New Year’s resolution, but in the end, it can significantly impact our lives and bring in a newfound sense of positivity. It’s about keeping a promise we made to ourselves at the beginning of the year regardless of how big or small the resolution may be.

We asked students to share what their 2025 New Year’s resolutions were, and Senior Diego Medina said, “Every year I like to create New Year’s Resolutions to hold myself accountable for this new chapter in my life. This year, my main focuses are prioritizing my health by going to the gym more often, saving up and earning money from my job and scholarships, setting academic and personal goals for my first quarter of college, and getting closer to God, my family, and my friends. Through these resolutions, I hope to become an even better version of myself and use them to have something to work towards throughout the year.” Medina is starting this new year with a great mindset. He has his goals set for the future and doesn’t want to give up on them. He is committed to seeing his plans through.

Junior Danielle Benitez shared, “My New Year’s resolution is to stop procrastinating and practice soccer for at least 15 minutes a day. To accomplish this I set reminders on my lock screen to remind myself of this goal. While moving forward with my resolution, I keep myself motivated by remembering that everything I’m doing for myself is to prepare me for college.” Benitez knows what she wants to achieve going into 2025 and wants it to be a great year. Everything she has set up for herself is a guide to help her in the future. The more effort and motivation put in at the beginning, the easier it will be as the year progresses. There is always time to devise a New Year’s Resolution. You have to think of a goal and not give up.

Setting a goal is a good way to stay motivated throughout the year. Every day there should be something we have to look forward to, this will allow us to feel a sense of accomplishment when we complete it. Senior Joanna Lee expressed, “My New Year resolution is to start going on more runs. I plan to run every weekend at Perry Park because that is when I don’t have swim practice.” Lee hopes this fitness goal will help prepare her for swim season to start up again. She wants to keep her promise of staying active and being in shape even after she is no longer playing sports. Although some might think they need an extravagant resolution, sometimes the simplest ones are the best.

Sophomore Makayla Heatherly said, “My New Year’s resolution is to be a consistent softball athlete so I can see good results 24/7 while I’m out playing on the field. To achieve that, I need to practice and work out frequently. I try to stay motivated throughout the whole process by thinking about the result I will see when I accomplish my dream of playing D1 softball.” Heatherly plans to improve as a softball player and continue to be a better athlete as the year goes on. She is willing to give all her effort and push herself to the next level to achieve her goal. Hopefully, with all her commitment she will get the satisfaction of making the one thing she has always dreamed of her reality.

It is a new year and we should make the most of it. There are many aspirations and goals we want to achieve. It is just a matter of bringing ourselves to do it. Start by setting New Year’s resolutions before the opportunity is gone. We want to look back on this year and be proud of ourselves for what we have accomplished, so let us make 2025 a year we will never forget.
