On November 20, the water team competed at the Tulare/Kings sectional contest where they were tested on their ability to conduct water quality tests and other things associated with it. Thanks to their hard work, they were able to earn 2nd place in the contest overall. This achievement was all thanks to Tyler Merry, Chandler Smith, & Kaylee Baca’s performances.  Merry stated that, “Prior to the contest, I felt a little nervous but confident.”

On the same day as the water team, the Agri-Finance team competed in the Sectional Contest hosted by Ag-West Farm Credit, in which they were able to bring in a 1st place finish for our school and a $600 cash prize beating out the nine different teams from the Tulare and Kings counties. This feat was made possible by the amazing performances of Jayden Wong, Megan Gahlandro, Jamison Blanchard, Alex Palomino, and Sophia Alvarez. Reflecting on the competition, Jayden Wong stated, “It wasn’t easy for us to prepare for the competition, considering the little time we had to practice…The most challenging part of the competition was the math portion of the test. Remembering how to calculate costs and the factors connecting to them was definitely a pain.”

Last put not least of FFA’s achievements, the Citrus Judging team placed 2nd at their first event of the season in Porterville on January 4th. This is just the beginning of a sure to be exciting season, and there is certainly more to come. Can’t wait to see what they accomplish next!

Overall, the FFA teams have had a great start to the year so far with many more achievements to come. As the FFA teams continue to compete in different competitions, we are certain that they will make El Diamante proud and continue displaying their dedication and commitment.
