On November 12th, a math teacher from Washington, Julie Hillend-Jones, made a threat to students. The 58-year-old math teacher threatened to shoot the students while on a call with a caseworker. She never mentioned specific students’ names or clarified why she made the threats. The caseworker called the sheriff’s office, who went to Hillend-Jones’ home on Wednesday. When Hillend-Jones was confronted with the threats she made, she didn’t retract them and proceeded to threaten the police officers. Hillend-Jones has been placed on administrative leave following her arrest. A sophomore at Emerald Ridge High School was shocked by the arrest as she felt “she’s a very much liked and I’m-here-to-help-you type of teacher.” She is in custody without bail in the Pierce County Jail as of Thursday, November 14th.
