The coronavirus is infecting thousands of people and has quickly become the topic of many news articles. China, the country where the outbreak was first identified, recently established a temporary field hospital. While temporary hospitals are common, this specific location was built in just ten days, making it an extraordinary feat. The 1,000 bed, 600,000 square foot facility took around 7,000 people to construct. This comes at a time where there have been 425 reported deaths nationwide, and parts of China have been put on lockdown. The hospital in question is located in Wuhan and is meant to cater to the coronavirus specifically. The doctors and specialists being hired to work at the facility are familiar with handling SARS and Ebola, which are similar, fatal viruses. The hospital’s goal is to restore the health of those affected by coronavirus while also keeping it contained. A second hospital is projected to also open within the week, expanding the resources available for the public.
