This week’s Black History Month spotlight is the amazing Michelle Obama. Michelle Obama is a lawyer, writer, and wife of former U.S. President Barack Obama. Prior to her being a first lady, she was a lawyer, administrator and community-outreach worker in Chicago City. One of her most recent books “Becoming” made the bestseller list multiple times and throughout her career, Michelle has given a number of powerful speeches. One of her most notable being the 2012 Democratic National Convention in 2017. She is well known for her strong voice on the importance of education for women and girls. In 2015, the Obamas started the Let Girls Learn, a U.S. government-wide initiative to help girls around the world go to school and stay in school. She once stated, “The difference between a broken community and a thriving one is the presence of women who are valued.” Her work has greatly impacted our country and to this day, she continues to make a difference for the better.
