The Life of Katherine Johnson

“Hidden Figures” depicts the amazing story of Katherine Johnson, a mathematician who worked for NASA. She is credited with being a trailblazer for African Americans and women in the field of math and science. Today, February 24th, Katherine Johnson passed away at the age of 101. Katherine, born Katherine Coleman, was responsible for calculating trajectories and emergency return paths for Project Mercury, among other tasks. She graduated high school at the age of fourteen and went on to attend college, get married, and have three children. Because of her work, Katherine has been recognized by people such as Barack Obama. She was also acknowledged by the Academy Awards, due to the movie “Hidden Figures”, and Mattel, who made a Barbie doll in her likeness.
