As a child, I would always believe that Christopher Columbus discovered America in 1492 and that we should be proud of him for it. But in this case, while being a teen, I realize that was not true. The natives were here first and we should appreciate their culture and make a realization that they were here. I think that “Columbus Day” should really be called “Indigenous People Day” to respect the history of these people and how they lived better lives while still walking freely on the land. Right now, there are many indigenous people that live in the United States and are still thriving in their ancestors’ beautiful culture. We should admire these beautiful people and appreciate Indigenous People Day!
