You would be surprised how many meteors actually reach the Earth. Most meteors burn up while they are entering our atmosphere. This could be because of the high speed they are falling at, but they also come from comets, which are weaker than asteroids. In 2016, they estimated that about 17 meteors hit Earth each day. This equates to be about 6100 a year. Many, however, are not found when they do reach Earth. They tend to fall in unpopular areas, or they are just too small to be located. Nonetheless, they have been known to fall near populated areas. Luckily, there have only been a small handful of people that have been injured/killed from these asteroids.
