President Biden Rejoins Paris Climate Agreement

Within his first three days, President Joe Biden plans to sign a total of 30 executive orders and actions. In one of his first acts in office, Biden signed an executive order to rejoin the Paris climate agreement, which is the largest international effort to curb climate change. The US withdrew from the accord last year, under the request of former president Donald Trump. However, with the United States in the second spot for the list of highest emitting countries, Biden is making multiple efforts in order to change the current status.

The agreement was created in 2015. In an effort to avoid catastrophic results from climate change, multiple countries came together with the goal of keeping the global temperature from rising no more than 2 degrees celsius by 2100. Not only will Biden rejoin the agreement, but he has big plans for the way America will combat climate change. During his campaign, Biden pledged to begin the process that would make the U.S. carbon neutral by 2050. This is a challenging promise, but a handful of executive orders have already been signed in order to achieve this, including the President’s order for federal agencies to begin reviewing and reinstating over 100 different environmental regulations that were previously weakened or removed by Donald Trump. Although Biden’s actions towards climate change will take a while to be fully put in place, many progressives and climate activists are enthusiastic about the changes for America’s future.
