Bay Area Chevron Oil Spill

On Tuesday, February 9, 2021, 600 gallons of oil spilled into the bay from a Chevron refinery located in Richmond, California. Employees first noticed the leak when they saw a colorful glare coming off of the water.  The supervisor of the refinery says the leak was spilling at 5 gallons of oil a minute. Nearby beaches have been closed because oil has been found near the shores. Chevron has already started cleaning the spill to minimize the environmental and wildlife damage as best they can. An investigation has been launched and authorities are working with Chevron to figure out how it happened. It’s unclear what the consequences are going to be for Chevron and the environment.
