As Texas starts to restore power after a disastrous week of winter storms, the state must now deal with overwhelmed water systems that could affect the population in a negative way. As leaks from frozen pipes have pushed the water supply over its limit, over 13 million Texans have had to remain under a boil-water advisory. Although temperatures in the state will reach the 60s and 70s next week, some Texans may face another round of overwhelmingly low temperatures until the beginning of next week. Over 25 million people were alerted of a hard freeze warning through Friday morning in southern states such as Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana and Mississippi. These dreadful conditions Texans face have caused many to boil snow for water or burn household items for heat. The water scarcity crisis has generated many words of advice from Texas officials, such as Mayor Dillon Meek of Waco, Texas who states that local businesses such as restaurants and laundromats should conserve as much water as possible to prevent the possible issue of inactive water systems.
