On Tuesday afternoon El D’s boys soccer played Redwood with a familiar face on the other side of the field to both football and soccer players, Coach Joey Chica. Chica was once a student athlete for El Diamante who led El D to a WYL title. He was mentored by El Diamantes coach Augie Gonzalez who met Chica when he was 10 playing at a 14-and-over club soccer tournament and are also very close family friends with each other. After watching the very good game yesterday, as I am writing this the day after the game, the Miners lost to Redwood 6-3. And that is Chica’s first win against his Alumni high school team.
