On May 3rd, a North Carolina man broke the Guinness World Record for the most push ups done within one hour. TShane Johnson, an U.S. marines veteran from Pineville, North Carolina, achieved 3,050 pushups in an hour, breaking the previous record of 2, 900. He continued to do pushups for another 12 hours in order to attempt to break the 12 hour pushup record, but fell short with only 16,400 pushups compared to the current record of 19,325. Johnson said, “[There] were some small little things we didn’t account for, as far as how much time between breaks and of course, just the amount that it takes on your body to do that long after completing the first world record, but it was a win.” Johnson raised money for the National Purple Heart Honor Mission by doing what he calls, “Push-ups for Purple Hearts.”
