Teacher Interview

With the start of the 2021-2022 school year, El Diamante has introduced an abundance of new teachers to the staff with one of those being Ms. Krause. She not only teaches 3D Art 1 but 2, 3, and, 4 as well and even though she has only been here for a couple of weeks has already received many reviews that she is a great teacher to have. Ms. Krause received a college education at Emporia State University located in the wheat capital of the U.S., Kansas. While at Emporia State she received a “Bachelor’s of Science in Education with concentrations in Art and Journalism with a minor in art history”. While she started college as an art therapy major, with the guidance of her college professor she decided to combine not only her love of the history of photography but her fascination for journalism. And since then she has been teaching for 5 years with the past 4 years being taught at a middle school in Columbia, South Carolina.

When asked what her favorite era or style of art was she responded with “My favorite genres of art are Post-Impressionism and Surrealism.” Post-Impressionism is a style of art from the late 19th-century continued on until the early 20th century that repelled the naturalism of impressionism; some of the artists known for this include Cezanne, Gauguin, and of course Van Gogh. Surrealism on the other hand is a mid 20-century movement in not only art and literature that’s goal was to release the creative potential of the human mind that causes a juxtaposition of images to be created. However, Ms. Krause did not always want to be a teacher. “In high school, I had two great teachers who inspired me to want to help students. But it wasn’t until my sophomore year of college that I wanted to become an art teacher.  My teachers in high school and a college professor inspired me to pursue a career in teaching.”

Ms. Krause is not just a teacher, when she finds herself with free time she also enjoys crocheting and playing one of the best video games ever created, Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. As an art teacher though, she can’t remember a time where she didn’t enjoy drawing and painting. Her love of art doesn’t stop her from being a big fan of sports, her favorite team is the Kansas City Chiefs. Ms. Krause is a great and quite inspiring teacher and students will be lucky to have her.
