What About Seahorses?

Seahorses are beautiful creatures with all different types of patterns and colors. They live in coral reefs and seagrass. They have a forever partner that they dance with everyday and meant to mate for life. They do no harm to humans; however, they are more afraid of humans. Their life is so beautiful to the human eye, but we’re destroying their lives.

Sea life is a constant discussion due to pollution and global warming. Pollution is in their water and sometimes the seahorses get caught onto trash. If they can’t get undone they either adapt to abnormal health conditions or die. Global warming has killed our poor coral reefs. When seahorses see there’s a predator they try to hide in these coral, but the coral is bleached and they no longer can hide in the coral.

As said before, we humans catch millions of seahorses. Most of the seahorses we catch are from mistakes. Fishermen use a fishing technique called bycatching. Simple explanation for bycatching is when they throw a huge net into the water and capture thousands of fish. These poor seahorses get trapped in these nets and end up being pulled out to be only found as worthless until they are able to be sold in bulk. This fishing technique hurts not only the seahorses but other marine life too.
