Are you looking for a fun musical comedy that’s energetic and full of life? Looking for a whimsical new show that has a hint of the supernatural side? Have no fear because I’ve got the show for you! On October 1st of this year, a new cartoon show aired on Disney Channel called The Ghost and Molly McGee, and it deserves so much love and hype for its funny characters and positive optimism.

The show follows Molly McGee, a cheerful tween who’s family moves into a new house — that happens to be haunted by the grumpy ghost Scratch. When Scratch attempts to curse Molly the spell ultimately backfires — causing the two of them to be bound to each other for eternity. Molly is ecstatic now that she has a best friend that can never leave her, and Scratch tries miserably throughout the episodes to reverse the curse.

The Ghost and Molly McGee is a delightful change of pace and is reminiscent of older 2000’s cartoons with it’s funky style and smooth animation style. The show is also a musical — with upbeat songs in each episode that altogether make this cartoon a joy to watch. And not to mention the animation in this show is such an experience with it’s dynamic poses and expressions — as well as the contrasting colors between Scratch and Molly. You can immediately recognize the spirit world by it’s dark blues and greens that’s all droopy and haunting, whereas the human world is full of life and colors with yellows and reds and oranges.

Throughout watching the trailers and the theme song released for the show I’ve been waiting for The Ghost and Molly McGee to come out for WEEKS — and I’m so excited it’s finally here! Scratch is a really funny character to watch on screen with his gloomy attempts of haunting Molly — whereas Molly herself strives to make the world a better place with her positivity. These two are the PERFECT pair for a Disney cartoon like this where an unlikely friendship blossoms between the two.

Although there aren’t enough episodes out yet to fully predict a plot, there are hints of a bigger story taking place here with Scratch’s experiences in the spirit world and Molly’s family moving from place to place. What makes this show so interesting compared to other newer releases is the heart that’s in every episode so far, even the trailers and clips released before the show aired. You can easily tell how much care is put into a show, and from episode one I can see just how much love there is in this story from the people who worked hard on it.

I can already see that The Ghost and Molly McGee will be a fun adventure for all ages to watch — it reminds me a lot of Star vs the Forces of Evil and The Owl House with it’s charm and animation style that differentiates it from other shows right now. I don’t see a lot of people talking about it right now, so if you’re interested in seeing something different then I HIGHLY recommend checking it out. There’s only a couple episodes out right now and the theme song WILL get stuck in your head I guarantee it!
