On October 12, 2021, at approximately 5:17 PM, the Fresno Police Department arrived at North Hughes and North Emerson, where a body was reported to be seen inside an empty canal, underneath the overpass. After officers went inside the canal, they found what was believed to be a body decomposing underneath tarps/tent bags. After removing the tarps/bags, they discovered the body had also possibly been burned. Although there is no indication of what caused this or if it’s an actual body, and there is no implication that it will be ruled as a homicide, homicide detectives are investigating the suspicious death.
