Servings: makes 6 candy apples
Ingredients needed for the caramel apples:
-2 cups of sugar
-¼ cup light corn syrup
– ½ cup heavy cream
-2 tablespoons of unsalted butter
-½ teaspoon of pure vanilla extract
– Kosher salt
-½ cup of water
-6 washed and crisp apples of your choice
-Any toppings of your choice such as crushed nuts, shredded coconut, chocolate chips, crushed cookies, melted chocolate, etc.
Instructions:
- Add the sugar, corn syrup, and water to a small saucepan on medium heat
- As the ingredients are on the stove, stir occasionally before it comes to a boil
- Let the ingredients in the saucepan boil
- Remove from heat once the corn syrup turns an amber color
- Add the heavy cream to the syrup mixture and use a whisk to combine
- Add the butter, vanilla, and a pinch of salt, stir until smooth
- Pierce the apples through the stem ends with popsicle sticks
- Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and spray with nonstick spray
- Dip the apples in the caramel and place on the baking sheet
- Repeat step 9 for all of the apples
- Let the caramel set on the apples for about an hour or until hard
Cooking tips:
-If the caramel gets too thick while dipping the apples in it, put on low heat on the stove
-If you want to add toppings dip the apple in the bowl of toppings while the caramel is still sticky
